2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray can scare a Z06 with 655 horsepower

First a mid-enginethen a version with a flat crank V8and now because the corvette wasn’t wild enough, a hybrid All-wheel drive model. This is the year 2024 Chevy Corvette Not only is E-Ray electrified, it has performance parts and specs to rival the mighty Z06.

Power comes from a combination of the familiar LT2 V8 in the middle and an electric motor up front. The V8 drives the rear wheels with the same 495 horsepower, 470 pound-feet of torque, and 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The electric motor produces 160 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque and drives the front wheels. Combined power is 655 hp, just 15 less than the Z06. And since Chevy basically just added the power and torque, we estimate (since they didn’t officially say so in the press materials) the combined torque at 595 pound-feet, a whopping 135 more than the Z06. Chevy estimates the E-Ray will hit 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds (with rollout), 0.1 seconds faster than the Z06. He will then complete the quarter mile in 10.5 seconds at 130 mph.

A few more details about the electric drive: It is fed with 1.9 kWh battery which sits between the driver and front passenger. The engine up front is also surprisingly compact. Looking at cargo specs, the E-Ray loses just 0.1 cubic feet of space over the regular Corvette. The E-Ray has a few unique modes thanks to the electric bits. It has a stealth mode that allows the car to start silently, and the car can go up to 45mph all-electric provided there’s enough charge and you don’t pedal too hard. Charge+ mode ensures that the battery charge is kept as high as possible to ensure maximum power is always available on longer hot rides.

But the E-Ray isn’t just about performance. It also handles something and stops upgrades. The E-Ray gets the same 3.6-inch overall width as the Z06, and the body is very similar to the ultra-hot Vette. It also gets the same wheels and tires, 20-inch wheels with 275mm tires up front and 21-inch wheels with 345mm tires at the rear. Aluminum units are standard, though carbon fiber those are optional. However, the tires are not quite as aggressive as on the Michelin Z06 pilot Sport as standard and Pilot Sport 4Ss optional.

The other E-Ray chassis upgrades come standard with Magnetic Ride Control and it is a specific tune for the E-Ray. The same carbon ceramic brakes which are on board the Z06 with the Z07 performance package are also part of the standard equipment. They measure 15.7 inches at the front and 15.4 inches at the rear with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston rear wheels. That’s a good thing given the performance, but also given that the hybrid system has one negative impact on performance: weight.

Yes, the Corvette E-Ray is growing. The coupe weighs 408 pounds more than a standard Stingray. The convertible fares slightly better at 389 pounds heavier.

There is one value that every hybrid, no matter how wild, lacks: fuel consumption. Presumably the E-Ray will be more efficient than the standard Stingray, but Chevy hasn’t given those numbers yet. But we should have them soon as the car will go on sale soon.

The Corvette E-Ray will go on sale this year. The base price without The Target fee (Chevy did not provide that number at the time of writing) is $104,295, which is a little more than that when the Target is added. That makes it only about $1,000 less than a standard Z06.
