clear group (NASDAQ:LCID) presented its new electric drive unit for motorsport on Wednesday.
The electric vehicle maker said the groundbreaking unit can already be found on the racetrack as the standard front-wheel drive unit for the world’s best single-seat electric racing series.
The new motorsport drive unit, which consists of the motor, inverter, differential and gearbox, produces 469 hp – despite weighing just 70.5 pounds. The device can reach a maximum rotor speed of 19,500 rpm.
“With an incredible power density of 14.7 hp/kg and immense energy recovery, this power unit will change electric motorsport again and follow in the footsteps of our revolutionary battery pack in previous racing seasons,” noted Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid. “This new motorsport power unit builds directly on the groundbreaking powertrain technology developed in-house by Lucid and proven on the road in every Lucid Air,” he added.
Shares of Lucid Group (LCID) fell 2.09% in premarket trading on Wednesday.
