VW’s global sales will fall by 6.8 percent in 2022, Audi by 3.9 percent


Audi and Volkswagen are the latest brands to report their 2022 global sales. Both automakers saw overall global sales decline for the year but saw strong growth in demand for electric vehicles.

Volkswagen Sales

VW’s global sales in 2022 were 4.56 million vehicles, down 6.8 percent from the previous year. The company’s announcement did not include details of shipments by region.

VW delivered around 330,000 electric vehicles in 2022, an improvement of 23.6 percent compared to 2021. China recorded 102.9 percent growth in EV volume by taking 143,100 of them.

the ID.4 amounted to approximately 170,000 of these units worldwide, making it the brand’s top EV. Deliveries in the US increased by 27.7 percent to 22,700 units of the model.

A separate press release aimed at the United States outlined VW’s deliveries to the market. In 2022 it moved 301,069 vehicles there, 19.7 percent fewer than in 2021. The best-selling product there was the Tiguan with a volume of 88,577 units compared to 109,744 units in the previous year.

Audi sale

Audi doesn’t sell as many vehicles as VW, but trends for the premium brand are similar to their mass-market counterpart. The four rings delivered 1,614,231 models worldwide in 2022, 3.9 percent fewer than in the previous year.

In the USA, Audi moved 186,875 vehicles in 2022, which corresponds to a decrease of 5 percent. the Q5 had 62,912 deliveries, making it the brand’s bestseller.

Electric vehicles showed very strong growth worldwide. Audi delivered 118,196 electric models in 2022, an increase of 42.8 percent over the previous year.

“The strong figures for the fully electric models show us that our clear focus on electromobility is the right way,” says Hildegard Wortmann, Audi Board Member for Sales and Marketing.

There is also still demand for performance cars. The Audi Sport division recorded an increase of 15.6 percent in 2022 with 45,515 deliveries.

Sales of other VW Group brands

Some other members of the Volkswagen Group’s brand forge have already published their sales figures for 2022. Bentley set a new record with 15,174 vehicles deliveredthat was 4 percent more than in the previous year. Lamborghini moved a record 9,233 vehicleswhich corresponds to an increase of 10 percent compared to 2021.
