Davies, who retired after the 2021 WorldSBK season, was teammates with Redding in 2020 as the pair finished behind second and third Jonathan Rea.
A great relationship was developed between the two Brits despite being in one of the most competitive teams and battling for race wins.
When Davies decided to end his career, BMW emerged as a contender to sign the long-time Ducati rider as coach for their new pairing of Redding and Michael van der Mark.
But after discussions with the German manufacturer, Davies was not convinced and instead took on the same role at Ducati
“I spoke to BMW about it,” said Davies www.motorsport-total.com. “Many were enthusiastic about this idea, others obviously not so much.”
“Somehow it went very slowly. To be honest, that didn’t make me feel good. I knew it wasn’t the right way.”
“I got back in touch with Aruba and Ducati. Serafino Foti was very committed to this idea.
“I had my doubts about BMW. These doubts convinced me even more that I should stay in the Ducati family. I’ve seen the effort people have put in here over the years, so I wanted to keep contributing to them being able to win a World Championship.”
In what was Ducati’s most successful season in both WorldSBK and MotoGP – 2022 was the first time they won both championships in the same year – Davie’s role may have been one that stayed under the radar, but the impact it had was anything but that
competitors with both Alvaro Bautista (2019) and Michael Ruben Rinaldi As Davies fought for the factory seat ahead of the 2021 season, he found it easy to put aside his past rivalry and help both drivers.
“It’s not difficult for me at all,” added Davies. “My job now is to help Alvaro, Michael and Nicolo (Bulega). It would certainly be difficult for some other people, but that’s not my character. I have absolutely no problem with that.”
“I try to help Michael on and off the track and to support him in certain situations. I have a lot of experience to draw from.”
“I’ve been in that position and on that side of the box before. I’ve been in that exact position for many years.”
