The Jeep Avenger is a hero.
The new all-electric subcompact SUV has been recognized as the best European car of the year 2023 the VW ID.Buzz and Nissan Aryia EVs, rounding out the top three votes.
The four-door Avenger is shorter than either the Jeep Renegade or the two-door Jeep Wrangler and has a range of 249 miles per charge on the European rating system, which is more generous than the EPA’s.
Its front-wheel drive is rated at 154 hp and the battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in 24 minutes, according to Jeep.
Fast charge speeds typically drop off after a vehicle’s battery is 80% full to prevent damage and prolong life.
Unfortunately for American fans, there are no plans to import the Polish-built product to the US. It was deemed too small for the market, but Jeep has something else in the works.
The automaker last year introduced Recon and Wagoneer S mid-size electric SUV concepts to be followed by production versions in 2024.
The Recon is a Wrangler-style off-road model with a boxy design, while the Wagoneer S is a street-oriented vehicle that features a high-performance 4WD system rated at 600 horsepower and a range of 400 miles between charges.
Pricing and exact release dates for the two models have not been announced, but the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid currently starts at $56,530 and was the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the US in 2022.
