Personnel changes are pending at Mercedes-Benz. The role changes, announced in a press release, list key positions in top management, including the CEO role for Mercedes-AMG in Affalterbach.
Philipp Schiemer, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH & head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group, is leaving Mercedes-AMG GmbH. He will take on a new role at Mercedes-Benz AG on April 1, 2023, setting up the top-end customer and community management function.
Schiemer was appointed CEO of Mercedes-AMG in 2020 and is credited with playing a crucial role in the success of Mercedes-AMG Drivers of the Maybach and G-Class product campaigns Forward.

Schiemer’s successor will be Michael SchiebeÔ
Michael Schiebe will replace Philipp Schiemer as CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH & Head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group on March 1, 2023. He reports directly to Markus Schäfer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Chief Technology Officer, responsible for Development and Procurement.
Schiebe will lead the performance brand Mercedes-AMG into the future, especially with regard to electrification. This was shown with the preview Mercedes-AMG Vision AMG Concept, which was shown last year. The concept vehicle rode on a special AMG.EA architecture, with the powertrain components developed from scratch.
Another important role change at Mercedes-Benz is retirement. After 34 years at Mercedes-Benz, Wolf-Dieter Kurz will end his career as “Head of Product Strategy & Management” on March 31, 2023 to implement changes to the car manufacturer’s product portfolio as part of his strategy.
Oliver Thöne, currently Head of Production Planning Mercedes-Benz Cars, will succeed Kurz as Head of Product Strategy & Control on March 1, 2023.
“The success of Mercedes-Benz is one thing above all: a team effort. Some of our colleagues, who have made a significant contribution to our success over many years, are now beginning a new phase in their lives – they are entering well-deserved retirement or are looking to develop professionally beyond our company. I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their tireless efforts and wish them all the best for the future,” said Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
