The 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar made its debut in November. It broke cover at the Los Angeles Auto Show sporting a radical white and blue two-tone metallic paint job reminiscent of Porsche’s 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally winner. The livery is an available option for the car, but it won’t be the only way to honor the company’s rallying heritage. The automaker will offer wraps reflecting the look of its participants in the 1971, 1974 and 1978 East African Safari Rally.
The 1971 Rally package honors the company’s fifth place finish when it entered the rally for the first time with a works team. The original Porsche Racing cars only stood out with a pair of black stickers on the hood. The new livery dresses the car in the same way, adding the number 19 on the doors and Porsche branding. The decal set retails for $5,260.
The 1974 Rally decal set costs the same and gives the coupe thick black stripes with narrower blue ones underneath. They run down the sides of the car – from the headlights to the rear fenders.
The final decal set brings Porsche’s liquid-looking 1978 Martini paint job back to life for the modern era. The orange lightwaves and navy blue look great on the dakar. Porsche adds the number 14 to the doors. This decor set is only available as an option ex works. It’s also the most expensive at $7,510, but it adds a lot more style than the other two.
power supply of 911 Dakar is the company’s 3.0-liter flat-six twin-turbocharged engine. It delivers 473 hp (353 kilowatts) and propels the coupé to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 3.2 seconds. It has a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h). Porsche directs this power to all four wheels via its eight-speed PDK transmission.
Porsche will only build 2,500 Dakars, but its success could lead to more – and hopefully cheaper ones rampant 911s of the future. The 911 Dakar will go on sale in the US this spring with a starting price of $223,450, which includes the target fee. The price can exceed $270,000 if all boxes are ticked. Customers can purchase all three decal sets ex works, or the 1971 and 1974 sets later through authorized Porsche dealers.
