Essentially a WRX car, the Levorg STI has been around in Japan for several years, and Subaru brought the speedy station wagon to its second generation towards the end of 2021. Also sold as the WRX Sportwagon in Australia and the WRX GT tS Wagon in New Zealand, the forbidden fruit has now been made even tastier with a special JDM flavored edition. Meet the STI Sport, a limited edition variant unveiled today at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2023.
It starts as the top-of-the-line Levorg STI Sport R EX and receives a number of upgrades including 19-inch BBS forged wheels wrapped in 225/40 ZR19 Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires. Other refinements include a transmission oil cooler, a strut tower brace and a flexible cable stiffener. Aside from mechanical changes, the performance Car gets a host of black exterior details and Recaro bucket seats up front trimmed in suede and synthetic leather.
Share the spotlight at TAS with the 2024 Impreza with STI parts, the Levorg STI Sport is powered by a turbocharged 2.4 liter petrol engine. It produces 271 horsepower (202 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque, which is delivered to the four-wheel drive system through a continuously variable transmission. It offers the same performance as the US-spec WRX, but it’s just a CVT affair, as the six-speed manual isn’t available.
Subaru intends to produce only 500 units and will charge 5,764,000 yen per piece. That works out to about $45,000 and €41,400 at current exchange rates. Dealers across the country will be taking orders from January 26th to May 12th. Stick with the standard 2.4-liter Levorg STI R and you’ll be spending the equivalent of $34,600 or €32,000, which frankly sounds like a lot for an all-in-one family car.
