Less than two weeks after rolling out a series of aggressive price cuts across the entire S3XY line, Tesla has initiated a small $500 price increase for the Model Y Dual Motor AWD. With its recent price adjustment, the Model Y Dual Motor AWD now starts at $53,490.00
Also with that $500 on top of the starting price, the Model Y Dual Motor AWD is still far more affordable than last year. Prior to Tesla’s big price cuts earlier this month, which reduced the crossover SUV’s pre-incentive cost by $13,000 to $52,990, the variant was listed on the company’s official website as priced at $65,990.

At $53,490, the Tesla Model Y Dual Motor AWD is still worth it qualifies for the $7,500 EV incentive of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). With the IRA’s incentive, the Model Y Dual Motor AWD could essentially be purchased for $45,990. That’s higher compared to its price immediately following this month’s price cuts, but not by much
The recent price increase for the Model Y would likely result in many orders for the vehicle, especially if consumers rush to pick up the all-electric crossover while it still qualifies IRA’s $55,000 cap on “all other” vehicles. Acquiring the vehicle for $53,490 is a way for buyers to get their hands on the Model Y at a very affordable price
Interestingly, the Model Y’s starting price of $53,490 might also discourage consumers from opting for more options like red multi-layer paint or 20-inch induction wheels. These two upgrades are worth $2,000, which would take the vehicle’s price above the IRA’s $55,000 limit.
The Tesla Model Y has been one of the best-selling vehicles in the United States for the past year, with a much higher price point. With its more affordable cost, the all-electric crossover could very well sell significantly more units this year, while also diverting consumers away from otherwise legitimate options on the market
The Wall Street JournalHe recently shared such a story, citing the experience of 32-year-old California psychotherapist Stanly Tran, who was on a waiting list for a Ford Mustang Mach-E. While Tran was set on the Mach-E, he just couldn’t ignore the Model Y’s lower prices. The psychotherapist eventually canceled his Mach-E order and instead opted for a Model Y, which already offers more range from the start
