Having completed the blockbuster sale of his 2018 Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta, 2003 Ferrari Enzo and 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series almost two years ago – and the blockbuster sale of Seb Vettel’s own Prancing Horse collection something before – UK-based dealer Tom Hartley Junior has now been entrusted with the sale of the 1990 Ferrari F40 by Toto Wolff, CEO and Team Principal of Mercedes F1.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer this very special F40 for sale. It is one of only 27 Ferrari F40s delivered new to Spain and completely overhauled by (restoration) experts Autofficina Bonini‘ Tom Hartley Jr. announced via Instagram.

“We all know Toto is a perfectionist, but if you take a closer look at this car, you’ll understand even better!”
The Ferrari F40 was used “sparingly” during the Mercedes F1 boss’s tenure, as Hartley Junior alluded, and is in near-pristine condition with just 3,440 miles / 5,500 kilometers on the dashboard (“Maybe because it can’t be seen driving wanted a Ferrari in his spare time”).
Complete with original chassis, body, engine and gearbox as confirmed by the Ferrari “Red Book” Classiche certification, as well as its original books – which include the always important warranty/service supplement, a leather portfolio as well as a special history file – this is one indeed thing of collectible beauty.

In terms of performance, under the hood you’ll find a twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of putting out 471 hp and 577 Nm of torque. The F40, which went from zero to 100 in 4.2 seconds, was considered the strongest and most expensive show jumper of its time.
While a price has not been publicly announced based on recent auction numbers as described by the Hagerty assessment tool, we’re looking at somewhere between $2.4 million and the mid-$3 million benchmark. Possibly more considering the pedigree of ownership and the overwhelmingly impressive condition.
To quote Seb Vettel, everyone is a Ferrari fan. Even Mr Mercedes himself.
