Yamaha marine has introduced an updated 450hp XTO Offshore V-8 outboard engine with improved technology and greater comfort. It features the same 5.6 liter big block powerhead and mounting bolt pattern as the original XTO 425. The 450 was designed to move large, heavy saltwater fishing boats and it will eventually become the 425 in Yamaha outboards -replace series.

“The XTO 450 gives boaters the comfort and ease of operation associated with the XTO line – in addition to more torque and power,†said Ben Speciale, President, Yamaha US Marine Business Unit.

The extra 25 horses are delivered in part thanks to an increase in intake and exhaust volume. At the same time, according to the outboard brand, Yamaha has mitigated the loud operating noise associated with the 425 by installing an intake muffler.

In addition to the increased horsepower, the Yamaha XTO Offshore 450 offers more charging power with a three-phase simultaneous charging system. XTO Offshore 450 uses PAC (Phase Angle Control) components to generate a super powerful magnetic field and generates up to 96 net amperes per motor at idle to power high demand devices such as gyro stabilizers, air conditioning and sound systems. The system is so powerful that it can even do without an on-board generator Jamaica. The system also prioritizes charging of the starter batteries, so they are charged and ready to go at all times.

The 450 features Yamaha’s TotalTilt feature for faster and easier engine tilting. When activated, it allows a full pitch up from any position with a simple double press of the “UP” trim/tilt button, or a full pitch down (until the trim ram makes contact) with the same double press of the “DOWN” button. button ‌ Trim/Tilt button. A warning horn sounds just before and during these operations. The movement and horn can be stopped at any time by pressing the incline button again.

New raised chrome graphics on the sides, a redesigned rear fairing, a new flush-mount front manual flushing port and hidden external wiring near the bracket all add to the premium look of this powerful outboard. There’s also an optional built-in propeller light (rather than a transom mount) that lights up when used Helmmeister EX SetPoint functions.

New XTO EC® propellers are now available for applications where propeller ventilation can be an issue due to the power and torque of XTO offshore outboard engines. Yamaha is also adding a 27” pitch to its XTO OS®® line of propellers for lighter XTO applications that have the available full throttle RPM to potentially drive more top speed.
